BioWow, so after two years I finally get around to writing something in here. Well, first off, how do you do? I'm William - my friends call me Will, or on occasion "Mith". Yes, I know, the username is cliché - in my defense, I've been using it since I first got dial-up BT Internet back in 1995.
Professionally, I live in that rarest, Utopic state of "Paid to be a Student". By which I mean I'm researching a Doctorate of Philosophy in Artificial Intelligence at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. My hobbies used to be too numerous to list, but recently I've discovered (much to my amazement) that I have very few.
Probably my major extra-curricular interest is Japanese Animation and Comics. There are too many facets to my interest in Japanese Animation to easily list - sufficeth to say, I'm a bit of an "anime geek", I collect figures of characters from my favourite shows and I manage a little convention you've probably never heard of.
I'm a bit of an academic, but I'm not a nerd per se. I have a Bachelors in Physics with a minor in Space Technology, a Masters in Relativity and a Masters in Computational Intelligence. Okay, they're nerdy subjects, but I don't have an acne'd complexion and I don't wear jam-jar glasses, so I can't get membership in the Nerd Union.
My other major hobby is roleplaying (read: escapism), both pen'n'paper and computerised. Despite being something of a seasoned gamer (old definition, where gamer meant "man with more d20s than socks", not "man with GPU heatsinks that could cool the sun"), I still can't bring myself to believe Wizards of the Coast are the sum of all evil - in fact, my favourite roleplay game is Dungeons and Dragons (3.5 Ed). For those who know what it means, my favourite RP Setting is Faerûn, Abeir-Toril.
And that's about it - later days!
